African Films After EFM 2026: 24 Titles, 17 Countries, and a Market Still Unevenly Accessed

The 2026 European Film Market (EFM, February 12 to 18), held alongside the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, closed today, with more than 12,500 industry professionals in attendance — a five percent increase over the previous year. Germany led participation, followed by the United States, France, the UK, and Italy. Buyer numbers reached 1,794 across 606 total titles screened, with 83.17 percent of buyers reporting satisfaction with the market.

The African and African diaspora titles identified below are sourced from the EFM 2026 catalog and cross-referenced against the EFM Screening Schedule webpage. France partnered on 10 of the 24 African projects — a figure that reflects both the depth of French co-production infrastructure on the continent and the degree to which access to the EFM remains mediated through European partnerships.
