The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the BAFTA 2026 longlists — the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards — the U.K. Oscars equivalent — today, January 9, 2026.

British-Nigerian filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr. appears on the longlist in Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for “My Father’s Shadow,” a United Kingdom–Nigeria production set in Lagos during Nigeria’s 1993 presidential election crisis. The film follows a father and his two sons over the course of a single day in the city.
Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania appears twice on the longlists for “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” which is listed under both Director and Film Not in the English Language. The film is a Tunisia–France production directed by Ben Hania.
British-Sudanese filmmaker Nadia Latif is longlisted in Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for “The Man in My Basement,” a feature adaptation of the Walter Mosley novel.
Meanwhile, also representing the Nigerian diaspora, Wunmi Mosaku appears on the Supporting Actress longlist for “Sinners,” and Cynthia Erivo appears on the Leading Actress longlist for her performance in “Wicked: For Good.”
And finally, “The Shadow Scholars,” directed by Eloise King, is longlisted under Documentary. The film examines Kenya’s academic ghostwriting economy and features scholar Patricia Kingori, whose research anchors the investigation.
BAFTA members will vote on the longlists, with nominations announced on January 27, 2026, ahead of the awards ceremony on February 22, 2026.
