Ghana DStv Subscriptions Rise After Pricing Dispute
Ghana’s National Communications Authority issued a public statement concerning the dispute between the government and MultiChoice, parent company of DStv, the dominant pay-TV service.

Earlier in 2025, the government challenged DStv’s repeated price increases, leading to an eventual restructuring of DStv’s packages on October 1: Ghanaian subscribers continued paying the same prices but received access to higher-tier channel bundles.
In its EOY statement, Ghana’s regulator confirmed that the new DStv “value package” remains in effect and that the number of paying subscribers has increased as a result.
Government attention now shifts toward enforcement against illegal streaming, per the same statement, tying this to lost tax revenue, reduced income for Ghana’s creative sector, and increased consumer exposure to malware and phishing.
A multi-agency taskforce — which includes MultiChoice and Ghana’s Cybersecurity Authority — is leading the charge on that front.
