African and African Diaspora Film Festivals Funded by Telefilm Canada for 2026

Telefilm Canada — the federal public agency that provides government funding and support for film and audiovisual projects — has released its funding decisions for film festivals in 2026.

Telefilm allocated a combined $2.475 million across two funding programs that included these five African and African diaspora festivals for their 2026 editions:

  • Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) — A Toronto-based festival dedicated to Nigerian cinema and African diaspora screen work, with public screenings and industry activity.
  • African Movie Festival in Manitoba — A regional festival presenting African and African diaspora films to audiences in Manitoba.
  • Festival international Vues d’Afrique — A long-running Montréal festival dedicated to African and African diaspora cinema, active since the mid-1980s.
  • Festival International du Film Black de Montréal — A Montréal-based festival presenting Black cinema from Africa, the Caribbean, and the global Black diaspora.
  • CaribbeanTales International Film Festival — A Toronto-based festival focused on Caribbean cinema, with regular inclusion of African diaspora filmmakers and stories.

Public funding of film festivals by government institutions is standard practice globally, especially where festivals are treated as part of cultural policy and public exhibition infrastructure.
