International Sales Agency, The Open Reel, has acquired international rights to VANILLA from British-Nigerian filmmaker Joseph A. Adesunloye.
The deal follows the project’s selection in First Look, the works-in-progress strand of Locarno Pro at the Locarno Film Festival in August.
Produced by Adesunloye and DreamCoat Films, VANILLA is about an interracial gay couple who celebrate their third anniversary by escaping to Barcelona where they hope to mend their rocky relationship.
Cameroonian native Yann Gael, star of 2021 genre-bender favorite SALOUM (2021), stars, along with Gabriel Winter.
Writer-director Adesunloye is best known for his 2016 debut WHITE COLOUR BLACK (trailer below). VANILLA is his third feature film. An early 2024 premiere is likely – Sundance or Berlin are possibilities.
