Art Direction and Costume in Djibril Diop Mambéty’s Works

A fascinating workshop on Senegalese pioneer Djibril Diop Mambéty is coming to Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil.

Titled “Art Direction and Costume in Mambéty’s Works,” it will explore the visual universe in Mambéty’s films, as an underexplored and compelling entry point into the work of the visionary director.

The workshop is scheduled for August 24, 2024, at Cartografia Filmes, led by Bea Gerolin, a filmmaker, visual artist, curator, and the artistic director of the Griot – Festival de Cinema Negro Contemporâneo in Curitiba.

It’s a three-hour session that promises to move beyond the common emphasis on the connection between narrative and social themes in African cinema, instead putting an unusual spotlight on the sophistication and artistry of African filmmakers.

I hope it’s recorded for digital distribution of some kind.
