StudioCanal’s Africa Playbook: A “Massive” Film and More in the Works

StudioCanal CEO Anna Marsh outlined the company’s future plans earlier this month. This came after a strong 2024, where StudioCanal’s titles grossed nearly $300M globally—up 94% year-on-year.

By the way, StudioCanal is a subsidiary of Canal+ and functions as its film and television production and distribution arm. It operates alongside Canal+’s core pay-TV and streaming businesses.

Among the company’s international expansion priorities, Marsh discussed how StudioCanal plans to grow its African presence, with Canal+ already holding a 45.2% stake in the continent’s largest pay-TV provider MultiChoice, pursuing complete ownership (expected to close this year).

She detailed several current and planned initiatives across production and distribution, including a new feature film described as “one massive South African story,” and more.
