Sudu Connexion Brings SHIMONI to French Theaters, Expanding African Art House Cinema’s Reach

Almost a year after orchestrating its first official theatrical release across Francophone Africa, pan-African sales and film distribution company Sudu Connexion has brought Kenyan filmmaker Angela Wanjiku Wamai’s acclaimed feature debut “Shimoni” to French theaters.

The French theatrical run, which began January 23, 2025, at Paris’s Espace Saint-Michel, has been carefully unveiled across multiple venues in and around Paris.

The film has entered its third week of release, as screenings continue at Le Luxy in Ivry-sur-Seine (February 9 and 10).

Wamai has attended several special screenings, helping to broaden the film’s impact through post-screening discussions that connect its specific themes to universal social concerns.

“Shimoni,” which premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, tells the story of Geoffrey (Justin Mirichii), a 35-year-old former English teacher, as he attempts to rebuild his life after serving seven years in prison.
