THE BATTLE FOR LAIKIPIA: The Impact of Colonialism and Climate Change on Land Disputes in Kenya (Trailer + Theatrical Debut)

Co-directed by Peter Murimi and Daphne Matziaraki, a trailer for the compelling Sundance 2024 feature documentary has debuted, and an initial theatrical release date – in the UK on October 4, 2024 – has been set.

“The Battle for Laikipia” is a timely documentary that examines land rights, colonialism, climate change, and identity in Kenya’s Laikipia region.

The film provides an intersectional look at ongoing conflicts between indigenous pastoralists, white landowners, and conservationists as they confront drought and competing claims to the land.

“The Battle for Laikipia” premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where producer Toni Kamau won the Amazon Studios Nonfiction Producers Award.
