Distributed by Outsider Pictures, “The Mother of All Lies” (Kadib Abyad) by Asmae El Moudir (Morocco), is finally set for USA theatrical release on September 6, 2024, at the Alamo Drafthouse Liberty in NYC and September 13 at Laemmle Theaters in Los Angeles.
It’s an exclusive theatrical release, with online availability not expected until late Fall 2024.
In the “dramatic thriller documentary,” a young Moroccan filmmaker uncovers family secrets. El Moudir recreates her neighborhood on a figurine set to confront her family’s hidden truths, particularly those concealed by her grandmother.
Starring El Moudir’s own family members, the film excavates a family’s collective memory and the country’s national history.
Winner of the Best Director trophy in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and Morocco’s official entry for the Academy Awards (shortlisted).
