Trailer for “Ernest Cole: Lost and Found,” directed by Raoul Peck

The award-winning documentary chronicles the life and work of Ernest Cole, a Black South African photographer who covertly captured the country under apartheid, and smuggled his images out of the country to expose the oppressive system.

The film, which won the L’Oeil d’or for best documentary at Cannes 2024, explores Cole’s impactful images and his later work in the United States, detailing how he captured structural oppression through his lens.

The film’s US theatrical release has been set for New York on November 22 and in Los Angeles on November 29, distributed by Magnolia Pictures.

LaKeith Stanfield provides the voiceover for Ernest Cole in the documentary.
